One child policy - Ruo Qing

what's a one child policy ?
- The one-child policy is the population control policy of the People's Republic of China whereby each family can only have one child with there are some exceptions.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS;
- The ones who do not comply are looked down upon in society,
- The first and second generation children wont have any siblings or first cousins.
- Gender Inequalities: women will continue to be looked as the lower gender in China; due to this many couples who have a baby girl sometimes kill or abandon their child and this results in more men than women.
- Forced abortions and involuntary sterilization of mothers.
- Psychology of children: mainly all children are the only child in their families, and as result face more psychological problems without siblings (especially when having to live up to expectations of their parents.)
-Escalting imbalanced sex ratio
In the past two decades an imbalance in the sex ratio at birth began a rise that has become increasingly lopsided.
The normal sex ration is 104-106 per 100 (girls)
in 1982 - The sex ratio was at 108.5 (boys) to every 100 (girls)
in 1990 - The sex ratio rose to 114.1 (boys) to every 100 (girls)
in 1995 - The sex ratio rose to 117.1 (boys) to every 100 (girls)
in 2000 - The sex ratio rose to 119.2 (boys) to every 100 (girls)

POSITIVE EFFECTS;
- The population control of China helps provide a better health service for women and a reduction in the risks of death and injury associated with pregnancy.
- The One Child Policy slowed down China's increasing population growth problem. It lowered the population density in the eastern part of China. China's hope for a quickly raising per capita income, would not have been achievable without the use of such an extreme measure.
- In can increase the food supply
- It can result in more resources for children development
- Overall better living standards
- Increased saving rate: the average family expends fewer resources due to fewer children
- Reduces unemployment (more jobs available due to decrease in population)

Reflection;
Although this policy has it's pros and cons but I feel that the one child policy should not be implemented as there are more disadvantages than advantages. Firstly, I think that the child will be pressurised to do well in everything especially when he has all the attention of his parents. thus thus might cause the child to be too stressed and it is not good for his mental health. also, being the only child means that when he grows up he will have to work even harder so as to provide for his parents, and maybe even grandparents. children who grow up in such situations will have a heavier burden. moreover, females are regarded as the lower gender in china and when a couple's first child is a girl, they will probably kill or abandon her so as to be able to try for a guy. it is very unfair as everyone should be equal and there should not be any gender prejudice. as a girl myself, i feel that it is really saddening because many innocent lives are taken away just because of this policy and not only that but the gender imbalance in china has been escalating. in time to come, maybe someday, there might just be no more girls in china. the girls did not even offend anyone or do anything wrong but their privilege to live is just taken away because parents prefer a guy as they carry the family name. normally, people would just try for another child is their first child is a female, but in this case, just because of the policy, the parents will have to snort or abandon the child. but think about it. if everyone thinks the same way, maybe, there will be no female left on earth anymore. and thats really ironic. because females are the ones who are giving birth, and yet people just take away so many female babies' lives without a reason that is even valid. thus, I think that China should not adopt this policy.
