To better elaborate on what I have learnt from this lesson, I will provide an example. For instance, during one of our CID lessons, our class discussed on the topic 'poverty'. Two pictures were shown to us.
The first picture depicts a scene whereby there is a beggar asking for money, holding up a board to tell the others that he is homeless, broke and all his belongings have been stolen.
The second picture shows that there is a woman, carrying a baby, or a young child, holding out her right hand and asking a man for something, which is probably a donation.
I am sure that many of us would choose to help the woman rather than the man as the woman has two lives to feed, compared to the man. Furthermore, the woman has the burden to take care of the child while then man does not and he is able-bodied to find a job. However, do not judge a book by its cover.
The true story of the man is that he was working hard to provide for himself. He lives under a bridge and has been working diligently. However, one day, his belongings were stolen.
The true story of the woman is that the baby or child she is carrying is not hers. It is something that is used as a 'prop' to deceive others to donate money to her.
Now, judging from their background, most people would help the man rather than the woman. This example shows that we should not judge a person by its appearance, as demonstrated in 'do not judge a book by its cover'.
This is 1 lesson that I have learnt so far.
